MAKING PENS
Start with a 'blank' piece of wood ... drill it ... turn it ... sand it ... polish it ... press it. Just like that!
So this incredibly expensive, tiny piece of burred walnut, becomes an astonishingly beautiful work of art!
Here we have a pearlescent blue blank of acrylic being turned into a stunning, iridescent swirly-blue pen.
To give you an insight, the Borrowdale silver birch in this photo was cut down two and a half years previously; allowed to dry very slowly for two years - spalting in the process to add the 'stripes' to the wood. It was then fully dried, treated and cut so it could be stored as a blank...waiting to become a pen.
